Maurice and his lively group of Jewish actor friends struggle for their big breaks in this bittersweet film that changes direction like an O’Henry story. When a famous American director (Peter Coyote) comes to France to cast the role of Shylock for his all-Yiddish production of “The Merchant of Venice,” Maurice gets his chance – but must cope with heartbreak at the same time.
